My first baby is due in one month. I even have heard that it is potential to claim incapacity insurance from the state of California throughout this time. I do own my own business and am not confident quite how to claim it. Does anyone have expertise with this? Thank you. Shira

You’re Eligible for State Disability Insurance (SDI)

As a self-employed individual, you’re eligible for state disability insurance (SDI) if you’ve elected to pay money for the coverage and have done therefore for a few amounts (I forget how long you’d have needed to pay in before you are able to collect). You can address questions on whether you’re coated to EDD (the state employment development department which administers SDI).
Yes, you’ll file for disability. You should check along with your doctor; very often the physician’s workplace will have the appropriate forms. If not, strive the web. The page for incapacity insurance is here:

(my employer was so new, they did not have any forms, and I had to go through the state to induce all my forms.)

The state pays solely for the time you are disabled, that is, unable to figure. In my case, I sent away to the state for the form. I filled out most of it and left the shape with my doctor’s workplace. The day my baby was born, the doctor’s office stuffed within the begin date on the form and filed the claim on behalf of me. I simply considered this. I own my very own business, furthermore. From what I perceive (and I don’t understand it all that well), you wish to pay the state for a certain period before you’re eligible to receive the advantages. It seems that self-utilized individuals can begin paying into the program a few months before delivery (I’m not certain how long). I, but, was employed full-time last year, which means that I am still eligible for the advantages I acquired through my old job. You must call Dave Shell House, accountable for elective coverage, at 916-464-250zero. There is additionally some basic information on the state of California website. Good luck! Sonya
